Scientific evidence shows trans fat increases the incidence of coronary heart disease. In fact, there is no known safe level of trans fat consumption. While people are becoming increasingly aware of the heart-health risks associated with trans fat, our consumption of saturated and trans fat is very high.

The initiative

In March 2009, a Cardiolabel was created which is registered. Ever since, the “HEART” has become a symbol for a conscious choice for a healthy life. The same logo is being used for several products and in several countries: that way, competitive forgery is prevented and the interests of both manufacturers and consumers are protected.


Since the initiative was launched in Belgium, we have directly contacted several manufacturers from different industries all over the World, to encourage them to develop a product and service range with the Cardiolabel®. We addressed distribution firms too.

The initiative consists of two phases: offer development and demand stimulation.

Offer Development

The registered Cardiolabel® is granted to products and services and is a guarantee that those are " healthier ".

 

The Cardiolabel® is assigned after a very strict and transparent procedure, based on transparent criteria. Those criteria are subject to strict supervision which is adopted according to fixed parameters ( approved parameters from Canada, New Zeeland, Denmark ). All the labelled products are to prevent heart and vascular diseases and to support prevention. They can be fully trusted by the consumers.

 

Demand stimulation

 

We will request several consumer organisations to support our information campaign on the Cardiolabel. Our goal is to encourage the consumer to purchase his first product with the registered logo, which guarantees that it is a "healthy product". The non-profit organisation hartziekte.be will organise information campaigns in schools and introduce the logo to several organisations. Eventually, information about the registered cardio label will be spread through several media channels and through websites;

 

That way we will try to gain the consumers' confidence.
